Application

Synacure 250 may be used alone or in combination with suitable photosensitizers, such as thioxanthones, in UV-curable inks and varnishes for application on paper, metal, wood, plastic materials and adhesives.

When used in combination with α-hydoxyketones, excellent surface curing can be obtained at substantially higher line speeds.

Imaging applications in graphic arts (e.g., flexo and screen inks, white base coatings) may be of specific interest. Synacure 250 is also well suitable for adhesives applications.

At low concentrations, Synacure 250 exhibits outstanding curing performance in highly pigmented coatings and inks containing rutile titanium dioxide or coloured pigments. It affords minimum yellowing after exposure to sufficient amounts of UV radiation. In pigmented systems, a photosensitizer should be used in combinations with Synacure 250.

Additionally, the outstanding absorption properties of Omnicat 250 allow curing of thick sections in particular when it is used together with the appropriate sensitizer.

Formulated product properties will depend on the actual reactive monomers, oligomers and additives utilized.

Recommended Addition levels

The amount of Synacure 250 required for optimum performance should be determined in trials covering a concentration range :

white base coatings        1.5 – 3.0 %

flexo inks                          1.5 – 4.0 %

screen inks                       1.5 – 3.0 %

overprint varnishes        1.0 – 1.5 %

as supplied, in combination with 0.5 – 0.7 % of a photosensitizer, e.g., thioxanthones.

Synacure 250 is available in 20 Kg cans.

Storage & Handling

Synacure 250 is sensitive to visible light and any exposure to sunlight should be avoided. Opened containers should be closed after use to protect the product against light and moisture. In the presence

of certain vinyl ethers, the stability of Synacure 250 can be adversely affected if the formulation is exposed to elevated temperatures. Avoid contact with alkaline additives and water.

Subject to appropriate storage under the usual storage and temperature conditions, our products are durable for at least 24 months.
